There are five different versions of the all-wheel drive Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for 2023: ES, SE, SEL, 40th Anniversary and Ralliart. It's powered by a 131-horsepower, 2.4L 4-cylinder engine with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The all-electric range is 38 miles with a total range of 420 miles. The layout underneath the Outlander PHEV is like that of most crossovers in this class, with MacPherson struts in front and a multi-link rear suspension. An electric power steering system helps provide good weighting and responsiveness while reducing fuel consumption. The Outlander may not present as a hard-core off-roader, but it has enough toughness and ground clearance to get through loose, rocky trails and the occasional forest road. In all models, the second row can fit up to three, and it's 60/40 split, with the seatbacks folding forward for more cargo capability or reclining. Standard equipment included include 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear-seat heat ducts, remote keyless entry, cruise control, an 8-inch touch-screen display, steering-wheel audio controls and a 6-speaker sound system. The SE adds heated front seats, heated side mirrors, a power liftgate, LED fog lights, 20-inch wheels, an HD Satellite radio, 9-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, and wireless device charging. The 40th Anniversary adds a power sunroof, and roof rails while the Ralliart gets front and rear splash guards, black exterior accents, 10-way power driver seat, surround view cameras, and a rear seat warning. High-tech safety come standard on all trims which include Forward Collision Mitigation and Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and rain-sensing wipers.
